Karri L. (Michael) Ballard, Ph.D., joined Myriad RBM in 2006. As Senior Director, Clinical Research, Dr. Ballard identifies and evaluates diagnostic opportunities aligned with the company’s goals, directs early-stage research studies, and works with development teams at Myriad Genetics to advance pipeline products.

Previously, Dr. Ballard was Director of Diagnostic Initiatives, and obtained over $13M in extramural funding to grow RBM’s MAP platform. As a Senior Research Engineer at the University of Texas, Dr. Ballard helped secure over $6M in funding, and managed the design and development of a commercially licensed lab-on-a-chip technology platform. Prior to UT, Dr. Ballard was the Head of Chemistry R&D, Analytical Division, at Luminex Corporation (Austin, TX). She was responsible for R&D of Luminex proprietary technology and research projects, and liaised between scientists and engineers for assay and system integration.

Dr. Ballard received her Ph.D. in Bioanalytical Chemistry from Tufts University where she invented and developed multianalyte bead array technology licensed and commercialized by Illumina, Inc. (San Diego, CA), and a high-sensitivity application of that technology licensed and commercialized by Quanterix (Boston, MA). Dr. Ballard received a B.A. in Biology, a B.A. in Chemistry and a minor in Theology from Assumption College. Dr. Ballard is an inventor on forty patents and patent applications.
