Tyrosine kinase with Ig and EGF homology domains 1 (Tie-1)
Tyrosine kinase with Ig and EGF homology domains 1 (Tie-1) belongs to a unique tyrosine kinase subfamily. Its extracellular region is comprised of two immunoglobulin-like domains, three EGF-like domains, and three fibronectin type II-like domains. The tyrosine kinase domain is in the cytoplasmic region of the protein. Tie-1 is mainly expressed in endothelial cells and in immature hematopoietic cells. It is known to have a proinflammatory effect and is thought to play a role in inflammatory diseases like atherosclerosis. Tie-1 is involved in endothelial cell differentiation and angiogenesis.
