HE4 is also known as WAP four-disulfide core domain protein 2 and Major epididymis-specific protein E4. HE4 is a product of the WFDC2 (HE4) gene that is overexpressed in patients with ovarian carcinoma. Using an immunoassay, a small study indicated comparable sensitivity for CA-125 and HE4 in postmenopausal women with ovarian cancer.
