Interleukin-22 (IL-22)

Interleukin 22 (IL-22) is a cytokine that is produced by activated dendritic and T cells.  Along with other members of the IL-10 family, IL-22 acts as a mediator of the inflammatory response and initiates the innate immune response against bacterial infection.  IL-22 is especially important for respiratory, gut, and liver cell survival.  Interleukin 22 may play a role in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
